Habonim Dror North America strongly condemns the Trump administration’s statement that Israeli settlements in the West Bank do not violate international law. We understand this statement as a callous move towards annexation and incompatible with a path towards genuine peace.
Habonim Dror’s vision of Zionism, ratified by its members in 2015, includes the principle of kiyyum meshutaf, or shared existence. This vision upholds a “commitment to a two-state Solution creating a Palestinian state alongside Israel, with the Israeli State being based on the values of socialism and democracy. This comes with the understanding that the success of the Zionist project is contingent on the success and viability of a neighboring Palestine.” The Trump administration’s statement will only move us farther away from the possibility of actualizing this vision.
We call on our partners in North America, in Israel, and around the world to join us in condemning the Trump administration’s statement and recommitting to work towards a peaceful and just two-state solution.
