HABONIM UNDERTAKES BRITISH AID PROJECT
A campaign to raise two thousand dollars for the purchase of a mobile kitchen to be sent to Great Britain has just been launched by Habonim in conjunction with the English-speaking section of the Poale Zion. This is the first concrete project in line with the decision at the recent Habonim convention in full support of the British war effort.
The mobile kitchen will be donated to Great Britain in the memory of Dov Hos, the great Palestine labor leader, who was killed in a motor accident several years ago. Dov Hos, vice-mayor of Tel Aviv and a member of the Executive Committee of the Histadrut, was killed on the eve of his departure for England, where he had many contacts with the British labor movement and was greatly respected. The mobile kitchen will be both a tribute to his memory and an expression of Habonim's support of British Labor, holding the front lines in the struggle against Hitler.
The mobile kitchen will be sent to England through the British War Relief Society. New York Habonim were given the use of a mobile kitchen by the Society for Wednesday, February 19, when the kitchen toured the city with a group of Habonim on board and collected funds in several of the important Jewish and business centers of the city.
Hand in hand with the fund-raising drive, a campaign of education and propaganda is in progress. On Sunday, February 9, Brooklyn Habonim held a public forum on "Jewish Youth and National Defense." On Sunday night, February 23, Habonim will hold a large youth rally in the Bronx on "Aid to Britain Now." Algernon Lee, veteran socialist leader, president of the Rand School, is the featured speaker. Others scheduled are Harold Jaffe, secretary of the Trade Union Division of the Committee to Defend America by Aiding the Allies, and Kieve Skidell, New York secretary of Habonim. A large youth attendance is expected.
