Shana Tovah Chevrei, This past summer gave us much to be proud of: seven successful machanot, MBI, and Workshop in its 51st year! This summer proved to be extremely difficult for Israel trip providers due to the turmoil in Israel. Many programs were canceled or had significantly reduced numbers while Habonim Dror maintained the highest registration in North America (as compared to last year). This coming year will present us with renewed challenges. Already we have seen the World Conference on Racism in Durban, South Africa, turned into a loosely veiled attack on Israel, the unrest in Israel and the Occupied Territories persists and, most notably, the September 11th tragedy has forever changed the world in which we live. As Progressive Zionists we must meet these challenges head on. We must continue to strive for a just and lasting peace in Israel and economic and social equality for all citizens of the world. We will meet our challenges in numerous ways. We will bring speakers who can address our questions. Ma'apilim (college age students) will be going to Israel in January on Mifgash to learn more and actively express their views. We have already begun to establish a network of activist households comprised of ma'apilim on university campuses (Batei Shalom). And of course the Kenim are the proffered way for you to learn, discuss and express your views! See you at the Ken. Aleh V'Hagshem, Jamie Levin Mazkir Tnua
