Ken Achvah (Eizor Miriam), Vancouver BC, Sunday, April
4th, 1999.- Here we are, sitting in the closed cafeteria of the Vancouver JCC
after a wonderful but exhausting first rehearsal of Neshef '99. "No Big Deal," some may say,
"it's just another Habonim Dror Neshef." No m'dears, this Neshef is different. It is full of our blood, sweat and tears; in it holds the secret
of life, the meaning of it all, and the key to better relationships, the
fastest horses, and how to eat whatever you want without gaining a pound (or
kilogram).
"So what's
this all about?" we hear you asking your therapists, "I'm
confused." Well, you won't be for
long. It all began long, long, ago on
an island far, far away, that we affectionately refer to as "Sunny ol'
Gabriola." There we were, little
Amelim with stars in our eyes and Neshef in our hearts. From that moment on, we knew our fate. It wasn't until years later that our destiny
became reality. At a
post-Winter-Seminar shindig we met the benevolent Meri Weber who was to become
our inspiration, as well as the Heroine of dam da dum dummmm (drumroll please) NESHEF NINETY NINE!
Full of spunk and energy, the chanichim flocked to the JCC this
morning, ready for a rousing (but not rowdy) chance to express their creative
talents while telling the story that needs to be told....the story of the one
and only Meri "If she were anymore perfect she'd be Mary Poppins"
Weber. And so, as a tribute to this
reggae-listening, directionless, Goddess of Galil, who makes one *mean*
vegetarian lasagna (and is also the older sister of Jessie "Garin
2006" Weber -- we love you Jessie!), we recreate Mary Poppins through our
Habonim Dror coloured glasses, with a Labour Zionist flava. To keep updated on the wonderful working of
our wild and wet wackyness, tune in next week, same Bat(nua) time, same
Bat(nua) channel.
Sincerly,
Jane and Michael Banks
