Highlights and Happenings At Machaneh Moshava

On the first day of first session 1999, the chanachim (campers) got to know the madrechim (counselors) through an event called MOSHWOOD SQUARES.  The madrechim had to tell on truth and two lies and the chanachim had to guess the truth.  Every day there is an ivrit shimusheit (useful Hebrew) play with the Spice Girls.  The Spice Girls’ usual cast of characters is made up of madrechim.  We sing ‘Livn’ La Vida Ivrit’ at the beginning and end of every mini-play while we do a dance.

On June 29th, 1999 the tochnit erev (evening program) of Capture the Madrechim filled the air with tension and excitement.  Each madrich/a was assigned an amount of points.  The chanachim had to capture the madrechim and drag them to the moadon l’chaver (meeting place).  Once the chanachim accomplished this, the schikva (age group) that the chanachim were in would get the number of points.

On Monday, July 5th, Mosh went on tiyul.  For tiyul we went to French Creek National Park.  Just like at Mosh the Amelim. Chotrim and Tzofim had a different shetach (area/territory) than the Bonim and Bogrim.  We did many differnet activities like the chugging game, hiking to the pool, swimming and then ice-skating for the kupa trip.

On Sunday July 11, there was Special Day.  Every tzrif (cabin) and ohel (tent) was assigned a color: either red or blue.  The reds were both aliens and their planet was being destroyed.  They were both enemies but they both landed on Planet Zatar.  They had little wars and built shelters while obtaining supplies from Zatarians who only said “What? The oopies and Shaps finally made peace at the Sea of Tranquility where they became Shapoopies.  Here is an account of what happened by a Zatarian reporter, also translated into English:

“What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What What.”

The Shaps and the Oopies took over our land.  They built their settlements and got into a war.  Luckily they made peace before the war went too far.

Bo-Zman was fun.  The Amelim were Dingos, the Chotrim were Koalas, the Tzofim were platypus, the Bonim were crocs and the Bogrim were Bushmen.  We had a lot of activities  to choose from.  One of them was face painting.  Some Bogrim stole our maps to food and they hid it.  We had to find pieces of the map without getting caught.  We went swimming and had root beer floats.
